Its the first week of January, how are we all doing on our New Year's resolution? Mine hasn't been so good. Everyone keeps bringing in their left over cookies to work and we had a baby shower breakfast the other day too! However, resolutions to be healthy shouldn't only be a New Year's focus! Make realistic achievable goals for sustained results. If you splurge one day, its not all bad, just eat a little less or head to the gym the next day. The best results can be seen when you partner up for inspiration, motivation and accountability.
Cafe Well is a health focused online site that incorporates social networking to connect you with other people who share your health care interests and needs. Instead of focusing on the number on the scale, Cafewell makes managing your health simple, productive and fun whether you’re coping with a chronic disease, caring for a loved one or just staying fit. Simply join communities which fit your needs and you can participate in discussions publicly or anonymously for support and motivation. In addition get information from experts – all while being encouraged to live a healthier life.
One method which has helped me in staying healthy last year is the use of a pedometer. I hold a desk job and my typical steps per day can be as low as 3000 per day during the work week. Fortunately, I run all my errands during my lunch break and this boosts my steps to over 6000. This is still shy of the 10000 steps that I'd like to achieve and I often top it up with an elliptical workout. Cafewell offers a free pedometer if you qualify for their current challenge "Race to the Moon". This challenge is offered to their members in PA, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio, and West Virgina. The goal of the program is to have all the participants walk a combined total of 238,857 miles, which is the distance from the Earth to the Moon. That's a great goal and I'm sure my kids will get a kick out of that too! To sweeten the deal, participants will receive incentives for reaching certain goals. These include Amazon gift cards, Entertainment Book coupons, and even two grand-prize trips to Hawaii for an outdoor adventure!
What types of challenges would you create for yourself? For those who do not qualify for Race to the Moon consider your own workout challenge with friends.
