Every day, as a child I would be found engrossed in a book and so I'm looking forward to when my children start reading themselves. Now comes the hard part, teaching them to read. I know this will be taught at Kindergarten and beyond but I like to enable my kids and give them a head start as much as I can. However, making that time to teach is not an easy task especially in today's society where Mother's are in the work place, which barely leaves time to cook, feed, bathe and book before bedtime let alone sit down with instructional learning books.
So I was excited to find the Rock 'N Learn programs which are designed to enable parents to be as involved as they choose with their kids. Easy to use and follow, each program is crafted especially to allow for self-instruction, or parents can help further apply the material that kids have learned. The premise of the Rock 'N Learn program is:
Music + learning = Rock "N" Learn = One rockin' learning experience
Rock 'N Learn sent me the Phonics Volume 1 for review. We watched the DVD today and I was very impressed by the idea of integrating music with phonics. The kids watched the DVD from start to finish without a peep, (totally unusual in our household) mesmorized with the music and words. Volume 1 teaches short vowels, consonants, blends & digraphs, word families, silent e and read-along stories. The DVD runs for 70 minutes and is aimed at kids aged 6 and up.
I also visited free-phonics-worksheets.com for printable worksheets that went along with the Phonics DVD. You can purchase the Phonics series on the Rock 'N Learn online store or even find a local store that carries them. Or maybe you'd like to win one during the Blogmania event : )
